Leeds City Centre Mission

Leeds Sanctuary

For over 185 years the base for the Methodist Church in Leeds City Centre was Oxford Place Methodist Church. Following bold decisions made by the trustees in 2017-18, the Oxford Place building closed. This decision enabled a new and exciting phase of ministry for The Methodist Church in Leeds City Centre, known now as Leeds Sanctuary.

Leeds Sanctuary now has four core values of encounter, justice, sanctuary, and flourishing, through which they are exploring reflection and wellbeing, activism and discipleship. They are creating spaces where people can take care of their spirituality and inner life through reflection and meditation, alongside spaces for reflective and creative forms of activism to bring about God's justice in the city of Leeds.

They run events, courses and small groups on these themes in Leeds city centre, and also have online resources of blogs, meditations and actions to help others develop spaces of reflection and action. They are working alongside many organisations within Leeds to make their vision happen. This project is still in its early days so watch this space to see how it develops.
