Party in the Park: Sunday 4th June 2017

Party in the Park: Sunday 4th June 2017Over 600 children and adults gathered for a party at Cannon Hall Farm to celebrate the birthday of the Church (Pentecost) on June 4th. Organised by Christians from Methodist churches in the local area this Party in the Park was a fun and enjoyable afternoon for all the family. We had live music from the St Andrew’s Clangers (hand-chime group from Penistone), the Penistone Children's Choir and the Barugh Green School Choir. We were also pleased to have the Rockingham Brass Band showcasing their talents.

The party enabled everyone to explore stories in the bible interactively and we joined together at the end of the afternoon with a short service of celebration, led by the Emmanuel Methodist Church worship band.

Elizabeth commented: "Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly welcome from the people I met; the Christian magician was fun!"

Rev'ds Philip Bee and Cameron Stirk led the celebration including prayers for those affected by the Manchester and London terrorist attacks. The afternoon culminated with the cutting of our giant birthday cake and followed by a superb BBQ prepared by Cannon Hall Farm.

Drighlington Methodist Church: Memory Cafe 2nd Friday of the month from 12th May 2017

Drighlington Methodist Church: Memory Cafe 2nd Friday of the month from 12th May 2017Friday May 12th saw the launch of Drighlington’s first Memory café. The monthly café is open to people living with Dementia, along with their carers and family and friends. However, everyone is welcome!

We provide a warm, friendly, safe environment, and an opportunity for everyone to relax and have a chat over a cuppa!

We have games to play, nostalgic books and music and an amazing collection of old Drighlington photos.

We even have Lola, our very own Pat Dog!

The café is open every 2nd Friday of the month and run by volunteers who have all trained as Dementia friends. All drinks and snacks are provided free of charge.

Over 30 people turned up for the opening including Local councillor and Parliamentary candidate Neil Dawson who dropped in to give his support.

Café organiser Trevor Martin commented "there seems to be a shortage of places for people living with Dementia to visit and this café is the first of a number that we hope to start in the village". It’s great to see the response, so obviously there is a great need and the Methodist Church is proud to help fulfil it’.

The Story of Light Advent Candles & Christingle: December 2016

The Story of Light Advent CandlesIn December we invited you to pray for a little light in our city.

During services throughout advent, we handed out candles (well, battery powered LED tea lights to be more precise), to each person present as a sign of God’s light, for them and their community and invited people to pray for the City of Bradford.

After a 30-minute service on Christmas Eve in The Wild Woods, we made our way down to the mirror pool and stretched out our lights around its perimeter, adding our lights to the lights of the city.

Then we all went off to the Made of Bradford bar on Ivegate for refreshments and carols around the Christmas tree!

District Development Day: 8th October 2016

On Saturday 8th October 2016, at Woodhouse Grove School in Bradford, 57 of us met for a District Development Day. "From reflection on the word to engagement with the world", led by the Rev'ds Stephen and Elaine Lindridge, Chair and Evangelism Enabler, Newcastle District.

You can see videos of Stephen and Elaine’s input to the day on the Busoasis Facebook page by clicking here.
In addition to listening to Stephen and Elaine we spent time in circuit groups.

In the morning reflecting on God’s time (the bible word Kairos), thinking about our companions and the different styles we bring to the task of evangelism, and considering who are the ‘people of peace’ with whom we might share.

In the afternoon we were offered the challenge that in order to be a mission-shaped district, circuit or church, we each first need to be a “mission-shaped me”.
